Our story

Kokonor Restaurant History

 

Kokonor Restaurant is the result of its owner, Nyima,'s passion for Tibetan and Asian cuisine. Located in the heart of Paris, this restaurant offers an immersion in the authentic flavors of Tibet, particularly those of the Amdo Kokonor region, Nyima's native country.

 

Nyima grew up in the Amdo Kokonor region of Tibet, where he was immersed in the culinary richness of his native land. Its traditional dishes, such as Tibetan momos and soups, have always held a central place in his life. Inspired by this experience and driven by the desire to share these unique flavors with the world, Nyima opened Kokonor Restaurant in Paris in 1995.

 

The name "Kokonor," inspired by Qinghai Lake in the Amdo region, symbolizes not only the origin of the cuisine served, but also the spirit of peace and serenity that Nyima seeks to convey through his establishment. Although Nyima is not the head chef, he personally oversees the quality of the dishes, ensuring that each recipe respects Tibetan culinary traditions while offering an authentic dining experience to his guests.

 

Since its opening, Kokonor Restaurant has become a must-visit for Parisians and international visitors alike, captivated by its warm atmosphere, welcoming service, and the quality of its cuisine. Each dish is carefully prepared, using fresh, quality ingredients, to deliver an exceptional dining experience.
